Biography
Dr. Julie Morial is a native New Orleanian who graduated from Ursuline Academy,
received her undergraduate degree at Yale University, her medical degree at the
University of Pennsylvania, served as a resident in primary care internal medicine
at Northwestern University and studied public health, health policy and
administration at the University of California-Berkeley.
Dr Morial has been engaged with serving disenfranchised populations most of her 30 year career in health care. She has worked with Health Care for the Homeless, staffed one of
initial HIV clinics in the US, delivered primary care at Kaiser Permanente for 15 years and held numerous leadership roles including Chief of Utilization Management, Director of Disease Management for the Medical Center of Louisiana and Medical Director for commercial and Medicare Advantage programs. Dr. Morial currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer for UnitedHealth Community and State.

She has been recognized as a Healthcare Hero by City Business and received the ”Right Track Quality Award” from the American Health Strategy and Quality Institute. Dr. Morial serves on a number of community boards including the Smoking Cessation Trust and the Louisiana Policy Institute for Children. In the COVID pandemic, Dr. Morial was the lead for a philanthropic effort with UnitedHealth to provide 4800 COVID tests and COVID Vaccinations to vulnerable communities and also to address food insecurities, housing insecurities, employment opportunities, primary care and behavioral health care alignment in New Orleans neighborhoods challenged in the pandemic. Her program was recognized for a Medicaid Innovation award by CMS.
Her passions are population health, data-driven outcomes, equity, fostering community awareness and service. Her loves are her young adult daughter and son and the captivating culture of the city of New Orleans.
